No, we don't mean - and would never endorse - following the herd or walking rank and file with the masses. By go with the FLO we mean to be active and intentional in Family Lifestyle Outreach. We believe the Church is made up of little churches called families, and God has given families extraordinary influence in our culture. We encourage you to seize the day for making Him known and for loving up on your neighbor.
FLO's are seasonal evangelistic outreaches specifically designed to build unity within the family and reach out into our sphere of influence - extended family, friends, neighbors, and professional acquaintances - with the gospel of Jesus Christ. FLO's are a great springboard to hosting and leading a neighborhood women's bible study.
Commit to making your family home a place of respite, physical and spiritual nourishment, and evangelism and edification. Your home belongs to God - use it for God. Open your home and invite neighbors, other young mothers, or people from church to a home study of some kind.
Here, we will give you ideas and inspiration for using your home as a depot of Truth and beauty and love.
OCTOBER'S FLO - Halloween Outreach is designed to reach the lost in your neighborhood with the message of Christ's truth and grace using a children's pumpkin carving party earlier in the week, and a pot-luck block party while passing out tracts and treats Halloween evening. The families of children attending the pumpkin carving party are invited to participate in the pot-luck on the driveway. Be sure to fill snack sized or sandwich sized zippie bags full of high quality and assorted candies and a sound, biblical gospel tract. Let's do our best not to innoculate people to the gospel by carelessly handing out a unbiblical tract!
*Far too many American Chrisitans hide from the world on Halloween believing it is an 'evil' day and evil to participate in. This is theologically wrong for the God of the universe - the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob - is LORD over every day of our calendar, for “There is not one square inch in the entire universe of which Christ cannot say, ’This is Mine!’” and if it be Christ's, we should be about the business of declaring it His! We can either capitalize on this one day of the year when the world eagerly comes to our front door - and shine bright for Christ's crown and covenant - or we can piddle it away and hide...but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord!
NOVEMBER's FLO - Thanksgiving Outreach we encourage everyone to open their home in hospitality to those you know who may not be able to surround themselves with close friends and family on this day. Neighbors, co-workers. You can ask everyone to bring a side dish to contribute to the traditional Thanksgiving menu. The day can be filled with the reading of Abraham Lincoln's Thanksgiving Day Proclamation, the children's story of Sarah Josepha Buell titled Thank You Sarah which tells of her tireless appeal for The United States of America to celebrate a day of thanks together as one nation, a round-table telling of personal thanks and blessings, nostalgic food, and family games.
